Job Summary:
The Nursing Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and managing the entire nursing services of the hospital. The role ensures the highest standards of patient care, effective utilization of nursing staff, adherence to medical and administrative policies, and continuous improvement in clinical outcomes and service quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administration & Leadership
- Supervise and coordinate all nursing services across departments.
- Plan, allocate, and manage nursing staff schedules.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and accreditation standards.
- Conduct regular staff meetings and briefings to maintain communication.
- Patient Care & Safety
- Monitor nursing care to ensure quality, safety, and patient satisfaction.
- Implement infection control and patient safety protocols.
- Ensure timely response to patient needs and complaints.
- Human Resource Management
- Recruit, train, and mentor nursing staff.
- Conduct performance appraisals, counseling, and disciplinary actions as required.
- Identify staff training needs and organize continuing education programs.
- Quality & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with NABH/JCI or other relevant accreditation standards.
- Monitor nursing documentation and records for accuracy.
- Participate in hospital audits, quality initiatives, and clinical governance.
- Coordination & Communication
- Act as a link between management, doctors, and nursing staff.
- Collaborate with medical, administrative, and support staff for smooth operations.
- Represent the nursing department in hospital committees.
- Resource Management
- Ensure proper utilization of manpower, medical supplies, and equipment.
- Oversee procurement and maintenance of nursing supplies.
- Maintain cost-effective operations without compromising patient care.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- B.Sc / M.Sc in Nursing from a recognized institution.
- Minimum 10–15 years of experience in nursing, with at least 5 years in a senior supervisory role.
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of hospital administration, nursing policies, and accreditation standards.
