  • Staff management: Hiring, training, and supervising nursing staff, including managing schedules, handling disciplinary issues, and providing counseling.
  • Patient care oversight: Ensuring high standards of patient care are delivered, which includes conducting ward rounds, monitoring patient outcomes, and coordinating care activities.
  • Administrative and financial management: Developing and managing the nursing department's budget, allocating resources efficiently, and maintaining records.
  • Policy and compliance: Implementing and enforcing hospital policies, procedures, and compliance with healthcare regulations and clinical standards.
  • Communication and coordination: Serving as a liaison between nursing staff, physicians, administration, and other departments to ensure effective communication.
  • Quality assurance: Implementing quality improvement activities, conducting audits, and ensuring adherence to best practices.

Qualifications and skills

  • Education: Typically requires a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSc Nursing), with a Master's degree in Nursing (MSc Nursing) often preferred.
  • Experience: Requires significant clinical and leadership experience, often 15 years in hospital nursing.
  • Skills: Strong administrative, leadership, and communication skills are essential. They also need knowledge of hospital management, manpower budgeting, and quality care protocols.
