GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This position is intended for attorneys or individuals who have recently taken the Texas state bar exam to join the agency’s General Counsel Division. The selected applicant will receive extensive, hands-on training in transactional and policy work.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

Performs complex (journey-level) research work. Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment

Assists with planning, developing, coordinating, and administering research projects
-
Researches and analyzes legal sources such as statutes, case law, administrative records, opinions, articles, treaties, property titles, and rules and regulations

Reviews and summarizes bills during the legislative session, and performs related legislative research

Carefully organizes agency documents pursuant to records retention schedules

Completes the creation and close-out of completed contracts of different types, which includes carefully creating and closing out CAPPS and contract files

Reviews and completes different types of contract review projects, and coordinates related research

Reviews and completes different types of policy projects, and coordinates related research

Performs legal research and reports findings and conclusions

Performs related work as assigned

Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions

Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule

Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information

Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree (J.D.)

Experience: Three years of full-time experience working in the following (or closely related) fields: Government contracts, policy, legal brief and memoranda drafting, and software experience

Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines

Ability to work in person at assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG workspace within OAG work location, and perform in-person work with coworkers (e.g., collaborating, training, mentoring) for the entirety of every work week (unless on approved leave)

Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel

Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA

Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs.

Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 5%
