Oberlin Summer Research Institute Program Assistant

Oberlin Undergraduate Research (OUR) and the Center for Learning, Education, and Research in the Sciences (CLEAR) invite applications for the position of Oberlin Summer Research Institute (OSRI) Program Assistant. This position plays a central role in supporting the day-to-day operations, programming, and community life of the Oberlin Summer Research Institute.
The OSRI Program Assistant is responsible for keeping K100 open, welcoming, organized, and ready for use, while providing hands-on logistical and community support for OSRI workshops, events, and affiliated programming. This is a highly visible, in-person role focused on supporting OSRI students, peer mentors, and staff, cultivating a positive and inclusive environment, and ensuring the smooth execution of programs and events both on and off campus. The position will be full-time, 40 hours/week, typically Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5 pm, though evenings and weekends are regularly required for support of OSRI programming; in such instances the schedule will be arranged in coordination with the supervisor. The OSRI Program Assistant works on-site, stationed primarily in Science Center K100, Oberlin College.
This is a non-continuing, hourly, 2-month temporary staff position. The position has an anticipated start date of May 26, 2026 and will conclude on July 24, 2026. The OSRI Program Assistant will report to the Director of Inclusive Excellence in Undergraduate Research and STEM Education.

Responsibilities
K100 Space Stewardship and Operations
  • Serve as the primary on-site presence in Science Center K100 during scheduled hours
  • Keep K100 open, orderly, clean, and ready for daily use by OSRI students and staff
  • Coordinate room setup and reset for workshops, meetings, and events
  • Monitor space use and address basic operational needs as they arise
  • Water and care for plants in K100 and associated program spaces
  • Restock water and other supplies in K100 as needed.


OSRI Program and Event Support
  • Provide logistical support for all OSRI workshops, community-building activities, and events, including:
    • Setup and cleanup
    • Taking attendance
    • Making announcements and providing general participant support
  • Support off-campus OSRI programming as assigned.
  • Take the lead role in supporting community events held during evenings and weekends, with flexibility in scheduling approved by the supervisor.

Student Support and Community Building
  • Cultivate positive, professional, and supportive relationships with OSRI students and peer mentors
  • Help foster a welcoming, inclusive, and collaborative environment during OSRI programming
  • Assist with student communications and basic program coordination as needed
  • May be asked to provide feedback on student work and assist with grading under staff guidance

Administrative and Programmatic Support
  • Assist with minor planning projects supporting OUR or CLEAR programming
  • Support documentation, organization, and preparation for ongoing or future programming
  • Perform other administrative, logistical, or program-related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • May 2026 Oberlin Graduate*
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • High level of reliability, punctuality, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, people-centered environment
  • Comfort working in a highly visible, in-person support role
  • Proficiency with Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Forms, etc.)


Desired Qualifications
  • Experience supporting student programming, events, or community spaces
  • Prior involvement with undergraduate research, peer mentoring, or academic support programs
  • Ability to contribute to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and supportive intellectual community
  • Flexibility and willingness to work evenings and weekends, with total work hours not to exceed 40 hr/week.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record, and access to personal vehicle, with certification with the College to drive College vehicles and willingness to transport students in Oberlin Athletic vehicles preferred.

  • Applicant must be a May 2026 graduating senior.


Compensation
$14 per hour for up to 40 hours per week, with housing provided from May 26 – July 24, 2026. Meal plan with two meals per day will be provided for the duration of the Oberlin Summer Research Institute (June 1 – July 23).
