Of Counsel Attorney - North Carolina

Position Overview

Our firm is seeking a licensed North Carolina attorney to serve in an Of Counsel capacity. This is a part-time, low-volume engagement designed for an experienced practitioner who is looking to supplement an existing practice with a flexible, straightforward affiliation.

The role involves minimal day-to-day involvement and is structured to require only light, as-needed participation. Most matters will be handled by our core legal team; the Of Counsel attorney will primarily serve as our North Carolina-licensed counsel of record and advisor on North Carolina-specific issues as they arise.


Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the firm's North Carolina-licensed attorney of record on select matters involving North Carolina law or North Carolina-based clients.
  • Provide occasional consultation on North Carolina state law, local rules, and procedural questions as they arise.
  • Review filings, correspondence, or documents that require signature or oversight by North Carolina-licensed counsel.
  • Maintain good standing with the State Bar of North Carolina throughout the engagement.
  • Communicate promptly with the firm on any time-sensitive North Carolina-related matters.

Qualifications

  • Active license to practice law in the State of North Carolina, in good standing with the State Bar of North Carolina.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of legal practice experience (preferred but flexible).
  • Current malpractice insurance coverage (or willingness to obtain).
  • Strong communication skills and reliable responsiveness.
  • Comfortable working independently in a remote, collaborative arrangement.

Engagement Details

  • Position Type: Of Counsel – independent contractor / affiliation basis.
  • Time Commitment: Minimal and as-needed; ideal for attorneys with an existing practice.
  • Location: Remote
  • Term: Ongoing, with a written Of Counsel agreement consistent with North Carolina Rules of Professional Conduct.
