Overview

We are seeking an Of Counsel Criminal Attorney, where your expertise will play a pivotal role in shaping justice and advocating for clients. Our main practice area is immigration, so many clients will have secondary issues that will require either post-conviction relief or negotiations with the Attorney's Office to ensure there are no immigration consequences pertaining to any conviction. We are a high performing office and are looking for someone who is a zealous advocate (we always find a solution for our clients). You will be a contract attorney within our firm and will ideally have an established client base.

What you’ll do

  • Provide expert legal counsel in criminal law matters, ensuring clients receive top-notch representation.
  • Assist clients with post-conviction relief, including Padilla v Kentucky relief.
  • Conduct thorough legal research using tools like LexisNexis and Westlaw to support case strategies.
  • Draft comprehensive legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and briefs that reflect meticulous attention to detail.
  • Engage in negotiations on behalf of clients to achieve favorable outcomes in various legal disputes.
  • Represent clients in court proceedings, demonstrating strong litigation skills and courtroom presence.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys on cases involving, immigration law, family law, and more to provide holistic legal solutions.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation within the law office to ensure compliance and efficiency.

Basic qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active bar membership in good standing within Minnesota.

Preferred qualifications

  • Proven experience in criminal law with a strong understanding of litigation processes.
  • Familiarity with related areas such as securities law, personal injury law, landlord-tenant law, and workers' compensation law.
  • Excellent writing skills with a demonstrated ability to draft clear and persuasive legal documents.
  • Strong research skills with proficiency in using legal research platforms like LexisNexis and Westlaw.
  • Experience working within a collaborative law office environment with a focus on client-centered service.

Job Type: Contract

Projected Total Compensation: $55.00 - $65.00 per hour

Expected hours: 10 – 40 per week

License/Certification:

  • Minnesota Bar License (Required)
