Position Summary
The Operating Room (OR) Nurse provides safe, high-quality, and patient-centered perioperative nursing care. This role involves preparing patients for surgery, assisting the surgical team intraoperatively, ensuring strict adherence to sterile techniques, and supporting the patient through recovery. The OR Nurse collaborates closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and multidisciplinary staff to ensure optimal surgical outcomes.
Key ResponsibilitiesPre-operative Care
- Verify patient identity, surgical procedure, and consent forms.
- Conduct pre-operative assessments, including vital signs, allergies, and medical history review.
- Prepare the operating room with necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies.
- Educate and reassure patients before surgery.
Intra-operative Care
- Maintain a sterile and safe surgical environment.
- Function as a scrub nurse or circulating nurse as assigned.
- Assist surgeons with instruments, equipment, and supplies during procedures.
- Monitor the patient's condition, safety, and positioning throughout the surgery.
- Document surgical activities accurately and in real time.
Post-operative Care
- Transfer patients safely to PACU and provide a complete handover.
- Ensure instruments and equipment are processed and accounted for.
- Participate in post-operative debrief and quality reviews.
Compliance and Safety
- Follow hospital policies, infection control standards, and sterile protocol.
- Report and document incidents, near misses, and unsafe practices.
- Maintain competency in OR equipment and emergency procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Valid Nursing License.
- Minimum 5 years of OR nursing experience (hospital setting preferred).
- BLS/ACLS certification required.
- Additional perioperative training or CNOR certification (advantage).
