Operation Theater (OT) Technician – Job DescriptionPosition Overview
The Operation Theater Technician supports surgical teams by preparing and maintaining the operating room, assisting during procedures, ensuring sterilization, and managing surgical instruments and equipment. This role is essential for maintaining a safe, sterile, and efficient surgical environment.
Key Responsibilities1. Pre-Operative Preparation
- Prepare the OT with required surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies
- Ensure functionality of machines such as suction units, cautery machines, OT tables, lights, and monitors
- Assist in positioning and prepping patients for surgery
- Verify surgical instrument sets and count materials with OT nurses
2. Intra-Operative Assistance
- Assist surgeons and OT staff during procedures
- Pass instruments and supplies as needed, maintaining sterile technique
- Operate and manage OT equipment (e.g., endoscopy units, imaging devices)
- Handle and label surgical specimens properly
- Maintain a clean and organized sterile field throughout the surgery
3. Post-Operative Duties
- Clean, disinfect, and restock the operating room after each procedure
- Ensure proper disposal of biomedical waste as per hospital policies
- Assist with transferring patients to recovery areas
- Support postoperative instrument counts and documentation
4. Sterilization & Equipment Management
- Clean, sterilize, and prepare instruments using autoclaves and sterilization units
- Inspect for broken or malfunctioning equipment and report issues immediately
- Maintain inventory of instruments, consumables, and OT supplies
- Ensure all equipment is stored properly and ready for the next case
5. Safety & Compliance
- Follow infection prevention protocols and aseptic techniques
- Maintain accurate records related to surgeries, sterilization logs, and patient details
- Adhere to hospital safety, biomedical waste, and quality standards
QualificationsEducation
- Diploma in Operation Theater Technology (DOTT) or B.Sc. in OT Technology
- Additional certification in sterile techniques preferred
Experience
- 1–3 years of experience in a surgical/OT setting preferred
- Fresh graduates with hospital training may also be considered
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹32,000.00 per month
