Job Summary

The OT Technician is a vital member of the surgical team responsible for preparing and maintaining the operation theatre, sterilizing equipment, and assisting the surgical and anaesthesia teams before, during, and after surgical procedures. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, knowledgeable in surgical procedures, and committed to maintaining a safe and sterile environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pre-operative Preparation: Prepare and set up the operation theatre for scheduled surgeries. Ensure all necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are sterile and in working order. Check anaesthesia machines, monitors, and other equipment for functionality.
  • Assisting Surgical Team: Assist surgeons, anaesthesiologists, and nurses during surgical procedures by passing instruments, handling supplies, and managing surgical equipment. Help in positioning the patient for surgery.
  • Sterilization and Maintenance: Be responsible for the cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of all surgical instruments and equipment according to hospital protocols. Maintain the OT environment, ensuring it remains sterile and organized.
  • Inventory Management: Manage and maintain the inventory of surgical supplies, including linens, drapes, sutures, and other necessary items. Place orders for supplies as needed.
  • Post-operative Duties: Assist in patient transfer from the OT to the recovery room. Clean and restock the operation theatre after each procedure to prepare for the next surgery.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of OT procedures, equipment usage, and sterilization cycles.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Educational Qualification: Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Operation Theatre Technology (DOTT/B.Sc. in OTT) from a recognized institution.
  • Experience: A minimum of 1-2 years of experience working as an OT Technician in a hospital setting is preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in handling and maintaining a wide range of surgical instruments and OT equipment. Strong knowledge of sterilization techniques (autoclaving, chemical sterilization, etc.) and infection control protocols.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
