Job Summary

The OT Nurse is responsible for providing safe, sterile, and efficient nursing care before, during, and after surgical procedures, ensuring adherence to aseptic techniques and supporting surgeons, anesthetists, and the surgical team.

Roles & Responsibilities

1. Pre-Operative Responsibilities

  • Prepare OT as per the scheduled surgeries.
  • Check patient identity, consent, pre-operative checklist, and investigations.
  • Ensure patient preparation (shaving, cleaning, positioning).
  • Verify availability and sterility of instruments, linen, sutures, and implants.
  • Coordinate with anesthesia and surgical teams before shifting the patient.

2. Intra-Operative Responsibilities

  • Maintain strict aseptic and sterile techniques throughout procedures.
  • Assist surgeons during surgeries as:
  • Scrub Nurse (instrument handling)
  • Circulating Nurse (non-sterile assistance)
  • Count instruments, sponges, and needles before, during, and after surgery.
  • Handle specimens correctly and send them to the lab with proper labeling.
  • Monitor patient safety and report any intra-operative concerns.

3. Post-Operative Responsibilities

  • Assist in shifting patients safely to PACU / Recovery Room / ICU / Ward.
  • Monitor post-operative vitals and surgical site condition.
  • Ensure proper documentation of OT notes and handover to recovery staff.
  • Prepare OT for the next surgery by cleaning and re-sterilizing.

4. Equipment & Instrument Management

  • Ensure availability, functioning, and sterility of OT equipment.
  • Operate and assist with surgical equipment (diathermy, suction, lights, etc.).
  • Report equipment malfunction immediately.
  • Maintain OT instruments and coordinate with CSSD for sterilization.

5. Infection Control & Safety

  • Follow hospital infection control policies and universal precautions.
  • Ensure proper biomedical waste segregation in OT.
  • Participate in OT fumigation, terminal cleaning, and infection audits.
  • Adhere to NABH / accreditation standards if applicable.

6. Documentation & Records

  • Maintain OT registers, checklists, and surgical notes.
  • Record sponge, instrument, and needle counts accurately.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

7. Emergency & Special Procedures

  • Assist in emergency surgeries and trauma cases.
  • Support anesthesia during induction and extubation (as required).
  • Be prepared for code blue and surgical emergencies.

8. Team Coordination & Professional Conduct

  • Coordinate with surgeons, anesthetists, technicians, and ward nurses.
  • Follow duty rosters and OT schedules.
  • Maintain discipline, punctuality, and professional behavior.
  • Attend training sessions, mock drills, and skill-enhancement programs.

Qualifications & Experience

  • B.Sc Nursing from a recognized institution.
  • Valid State Nursing Council Registration mandatory.
  • OT training or 3–6 years OT experience.
  • Knowledge of sterile techniques and OT protocols essential.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹15,161.28 - ₹25,000.00 per month
