Operations Manager - Carton Box Production Unit
The Operations Manager will be responsible for the efficient, safe, and profitable day-to-day running of the entire corrugated box manufacturing facility, from raw material handling through to final product shipment. This role requires a strong background in manufacturing processes, lean principles, and rigorous quality control, particularly within the packaging sector.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
1. Production Planning & Execution:
- Oversee Production Scheduling: Develop, implement, and monitor master production schedules, ensuring alignment with customer demand, raw material availability (liner, medium), and machine capacity (corrugator, die-cutting, gluing, stitching).
- Process Optimization: Continuously review and improve manufacturing processes (e.g., cutting, flute lamination, printing, finishing) to eliminate waste, reduce cycle times, and increase throughout .
- Resource Allocation: Manage the efficient use of all operational resources, including machinery, labor (shifts, overtime), and consumables.
2. Quality Assurance & Control:
- Quality Standards: Establish and enforce rigorous quality control measures at every stage of production to ensure finished cartons meet customer specifications (e.g., structural integrity, print accuracy, correct board specifications) .
- Defect Management: Lead root cause analysis for quality issues (defects, incorrect sizing) and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
3. Maintenance & Facility Management:
- Equipment Uptime: Coordinate with the maintenance team to implement effective preventive maintenance programs for all critical machinery (e.g., corrugator, flexo/rotary die-cutter) to maximize operational uptime.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure the facility adheres to all local and federal safety regulations, promoting a zero-accident culture.
4. Inventory & Supply Chain Coordination:
- Material Flow: Manage inbound logistics for paper stock and outbound logistics for finished goods, coordinating closely with the Planning/PPIC and Logistics departments .
- Inventory Control: Oversee raw material, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods inventory to balance carrying costs against service level requirements.
5. Team Leadership & Performance Management:
- Staff Development: Recruit, train, mentor, and manage production supervisors, floor managers, and line operators.
- Performance Metrics: Define, track, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), on-time delivery, scrap rate, and labor productivity.
Essential Qualifications (General)
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or a related technical field.
- Proven experience (2+ years) in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, corrugated packaging experience highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles (e.g., 5S, TPM, Waste reduction) .
