Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is an advanced professional position in a CHD STD Prevention and Control Program. The incumbent in this position provides direct disease and public health awareness intervention activities including but not limited to notification, counseling and referral services of individuals exposed to or at-risk of infection from sexually transmitted infections and other public health threats.

The position requires a firsthand knowledge of public health systems, as well as professional and interpersonal skills to interact with health care clients, health care professionals and others who impact STD Prevention and Control activities.

Performs case management activities as directed in the process of identifying infected individuals. These activities will include but are not limited to: work prioritization, records documentation and management, HIV pre and posttest counseling, case analysis, data entry and other related activities.

Communicates with and visits public and private clinics, clinicians, hospitals, laboratories, and other health care providers to obtain pertinent clinical information and promote reporting of cases and or positive reactive test results in accordance with FL statutes and administrative rules. Acquaint practitioners with current diagnostic and treatment guidelines and disease trends in the community.

Duties will also require a knowledge of varied social, economic, cultural and lifestyle characteristics, and a skill in communicating with, and eliciting information from patients and target groups with these diverse backgrounds. All activities are performed observing federal, state, and DOH-Osceola Confidentiality statutes, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of methods of compiling, organizing and analyzing data. Ability to conduct fact-finding interviews. Ability to conduct health investigations. Ability to analyze data. Ability to prepare records and reports. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Qualifications:

Minimum -

• Experience working in the STD or HIV field
• A Florida Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment
• Willingness to participate in STD community outreach
• Experience working with computer-based programs in the last five years
• Willing to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency
• Willing to use your personal vehicle if needed to travel to another location to perform assignments

Preferred -

• Experience providing patient education in a community setting
• Willing to work with active and latent tuberculosis cases
