Job Summary: The Optometry Assistant aids the optometrist in both clinical and administrative duties.
Job Responsibilities:

Processes patient’s information through the computer system and helps maintain the operation of the reception records and examination room area.

Retrieves patient records from other clinics to ensure complete information on file before appointment date.

Manages continuous patient flow by effectively communicating with team members and providers.

Conducts inventory of supplies at the stock examination rooms. Verifies and maintains stock level and recommends disposal for all expired supply items.

Disinfects and wipes down all equipment and instruments.

Conduct pre-testing and special testing for the following equipment and instruments:
-
Pre-testing I – auto refraction, lensometry, and tonometry.
-
Pre-testing II – preliminary case history including current medical conditions. Visual acuities, dial in, phoropter, color vision and drop instillation.

Special testing – visual fields, fundus photography, optical coherence tomography

Maintains contact lenses inventory and order trial lenses.

Assist in care coordination which may include obtaining test and referral results and communication with various entities including but not limited to community organizations, health plans, facilities and specialists.

Proactively address needs of the patients and families through the concept of population management.

Effectively communicates with all patients with specific attention to the vulnerable patient population.

Provide self management support in the form of patient coaching and motivational interviewing when appropriate.

Acknowledges the importance of a team approach when providing patient care.

Communicates and coordinates effectively when providing patient care.

Actively participates in the medical home care team which is comprised of clinical and non-clinical working together towards a common goal: delivering quality care to our patients.

Maintain compliance with the organization’s confidentiality policy in accordance to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

High school graduate/GED
-

Working Conditions:

Monday - Thursday - 9 Hour Days
Friday - 4 Hour Days
