PACU Nurse

Job Summary

The Surgical / PACU Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures and during their recovery from anesthesia. The role involves pre-operative preparation, intra-operative assistance (if applicable), and post-anesthesia monitoring to ensure patient safety and optimal recovery.

Key ResponsibilitiesPre-Operative Care

  • Assess patients prior to surgery, including medical history and baseline observations
  • Prepare patients physically and emotionally for surgical procedures
  • Ensure completion of pre-operative checklists and documentation
  • Verify patient identity, consent, and surgical site

Intra-Operative Support (if applicable)

  • Assist surgical team as a scrub or circulating nurse
  • Maintain sterile environment and adhere to infection control protocols
  • Monitor patient condition during procedures

Post-Anesthesia Care (PACU)

  • Receive patients from the operating room and perform immediate assessment
  • Monitor vital signs, airway, breathing, and circulation
  • Assess level of consciousness and pain management needs
  • Identify and respond to post-anesthesia complications
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed
  • Ensure safe recovery and readiness for discharge or transfer

Patient Safety & Quality Care

  • Adhere to clinical standards, policies, and safety protocols
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation
  • Ensure infection prevention and control measures are followed
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Education:

  • Bachelor's (Required)

Experience:

  • OR/ PACU: 5 years (Required)
