Painter

Job Summary:

The Painter is responsible for the interior and exterior painting of structures, buildings, and other surfaces.

Pay Rate: $28.25 per hour.

This will be a union position

Shift: Monday- Friday, Day shift

Essential Job Functions:

• Read blueprints/instructions and examine surfaces to determine the kind and amount of work necessary
• Make on-site preparations such as building scaffolding, covering fixtures etc.
• Prepare walls and other surfaces for painting by scraping, using sandpaper, removing old paint etc.
• Fill cracks and holes with appropriate material (e.g. plaster)
• Mix paint and other materials to prepare the right color or texture
• Paint surfaces according to instructions with various tools
• Various painting related tasks
• Apply varnish and other finishes
• Calculate costs of necessary supplies
• Take and adhere to all health and safety precautions
• Paint with various tools and in various heights and spaces while observing all safety measures
• Complete projects according to work orders in a timely and professional fashion
• Deliver high-quality painting work

Required Skills, Experience, and Education:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Security clearance
• 5 years of progressive hands-on experience in related duties in a commercial facility
• Ability to handle physical workload
• Deadline and detail-oriented
• Ability to independently solve problems
• Customer service oriented, you like getting a job done right
• Proven experience as a painter
• Excellent knowledge of painting material and how to select, mix and apply them
• Solid knowledge of commercial and/or construction painting techniques
• Aptitude in using appropriate tools (brushes, caulking guns etc.)
• Good basic math skills
• Manual dexterity with excellent balance to work on scaffolding, ladders etc.
Conscientious with great attention to detail

Physical Requirements:
The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing work assignments and duties, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, or stoop for long periods of time. Must be capable of lifting to 75 lbs. Must be able to use arms, hands, and fingers to reach, handle, and feel. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception. Must have suitable endurance to do physical labor for long periods of time. Once certified, must be willing to work in confined spaces and utilize all required PPE. Ability to safely climb and work from ladders and scaffolding.

Working Environment:
This position may require work both inside and outside the facility. This job may require work on the roof of a building or in the basement and confined spaces. May experience high levels of noise in connection to equipment and tools. Must be able to perform work while wearing required PPE. Must be willing to participate in training for confined spaces including all aspects of breathing apparatus Fit Testing. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud.
