Part-Time Attorney/Instructor

Job Responsibilities

The South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy (Academy), General Counsel Unit is currently seeking a Part-Time Attorney/Instructor to perform the following job functions.

• Sits as a hearing officer for law enforcement contested case hearings
• Write hearing officer recommendation to submit to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Training Council (LETC) for review
• Draft the final agency decision based on the LETC decision
• Draft hearing notices to schedule case hearings

Minimum and Additional Requirements

• Juris doctorate degree from an accredited law school and
• Active member of the SC Bar

• Familiar with the dynamics of the judicial process
• Personality and experience to work effectively in the classroom
• Knowledge of SC criminal and civil laws as they relate to law enforcement
• Knowledge of federal and state constitutional rulings
• Knowledge of court rules of procedure
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Exercise good judgement and discretion
• Ability to establish professional relationships
• Ability to work some holidays, as needed
