Scope of Job

We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s student body as a Part-Time Lecturer of Health and Biomedical Sciences beginning in the 2026-2027 academic year. Part-time lecturers are paid per course taught commensurate with experience and/or qualifications and serve the needs of the program, department, and college.

Ability to teach Health Services and Medical Terminology coursework in the on-line setting, availability for UTRGV required training for on-line teaching and the ability to hold on-line office hours and provide student support.

Minimum Qualifications

A master’s or doctoral degree in a health profession, public health, health science, healthcare informatics, or healthcare administration. A master’s degree in another health field/profession appropriate for course/subject matter may be considered. Applicants with a master’s degree must have 3 years’ work experience or 1 peer-reviewed, scholarly publication in the field.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications

Registered Dietician (RD) to teach nutrition courses, Health Informatics Certification (RHIT, RHIA, CHDA, PMP or other informatics certification) to teach health informatics courses.

Preferred Qualification

Excellent written and oral communication skills required. Experience with LMS such as Canvas or D2L. APPQMR certification. RD certification for nutrition, and Health Informatics Certification for health informatics courses. Experience teaching in public health, health science, health informatics, or healthcare administration. Experience teaching on-line.

Salary

Part-time Lecturers are paid per course taught commensurate with experience and/or qualifications and serve at the need of the program, department and college.

Additional Information

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

Texas law requires faculty members whose primary language is not English to demonstrate proficiency in English as determined by a satisfactory paper-based test score of 500 (computer-based of 173 or internet-based of 61) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a satisfactory test score of 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
