Part-time Outreach/Legal Advocate
Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides legal advocacy to survivors of domestic (DV) and sexual (SV) violence, including—but not limited to—assistance navigating court systems, accompanying survivors to court, helping survivors file for protection orders, and providing information and referrals to other community resources.
- Participates in efforts to develop a coordinated community response to DV/SV.
- Establishes and maintains a collaborative and cooperative relationship with court personnel, law enforcement, prosecutor offices, and community organizations.
- Provides medical/hospital advocacy by accompanying survivors in the emergency room and participating in the medical/hospital on-call rotation.
- Performs outreach and awareness activities, including but not limited to speaking about DV/SV and Russell House services, attending community events and meetings, and creating community connections to increase awareness in the communities Russell House serves.
- Ensures precautions are taken to provide clients safety, security, and confidentiality.
- Provides shift coverage as needed, including holiday and weekend coverage.
- Tracks and reports required data and statistics.
- Attends staff meetings and training.
- Other duties when requested (as needed).
Skills & Experience
· Sensitivity to and acceptance of individual needs and differences.
· Bachelor's degree in a related field OR three years of related experience.
· Familiarity with the civil and criminal justice systems.
· Knowledge of the Adult Abuse Act and the ability to educate those seeking orders of protection.
· Ability to conduct oneself professionally, particularly in handling confidential information and as a representative of Russell House in the community.
· Ability and willingness to work cooperatively as a team member to accomplish goals.
· Excellent communication skills, computer literacy, ability to intrinsically motivate oneself, goal-oriented, passionate about Russell House's mission, and helping survivors of DV/SV and their children.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $18.00 per hour
