Part-time Paralegal

<Job Overview>
We are seeking a Part-time Paralegal to join our legal team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to support various legal functions across in a family law practice. As a vital member of our firm, you will assist the attorney with document preparation, case management, client communication, and communication with courts and opposing counsel. This position is perfect for motivated individuals who have some experience working in a family law firm. This role is ideal for someone who is detailed oriented and can manage sensitive client interactions with professionalism and care.

<Responsibilities>

  • Case Management
  • Maintain and organize client files (digital and physical)
  • Track deadlines, court dates, and filing requirements
  • Maintain case status summaries for attorney review

Drafting

  • Prepare initial drafts of:
  • – Complaints (divorce, custody/visitation)– Motions (pendente lite, show cause, compel)– Discovery (interrogatories, requests for production)– Subpoenas and notices
  • Prepare hearing binders and exhibit listsClient Communication
  • Conduct initial intake calls using firm script
  • Communicate with clients regarding document collection and case updates
  • Maintain professionalism with high-conflict or emotionally sensitive clients

Discovery & Evidence

  • Organize and summarize financial records
  • Prepare timelines and factual summaries
  • Identify missing documents and follow up with clients

Qualifications

  • Prior family law experience preferred
  • Strong writing and proofreading skills
  • Familiarity with Virginia court procedures preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • High emotional intelligence and discretion

<Requirements>

  • Proven paralegal experience with a strong understanding of legal procedures in family law.
  • familiarity with MyCase legal case management software is a plus.
  • Excellent writing skills for drafting legal documents and correspondence; strong proofreading and transcription abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a busy environment.
  • Effective interviewing skills to gather relevant case information from clients or witnesses.
  • Knowledge of document review processes and familiarity with litigation procedures.
  • Clerical experience including data entry, filing systems, and administrative support in a law office setting.
