Part Time Tutor

ob Overview

We are seeking a patient, engaging, and highly adaptable Part-Time Private Tutor to support two children (ages 12 and 5) with homework assistance, academic enrichment, and skill development across multiple subjects. This role focuses on personalized instruction tailored to each child’s developmental level, learning style, and academic goals.

The tutor will provide structured support in core subjects such as mathematics, reading, writing, science, and social studies, while also fostering curiosity, confidence, and independent learning habits. Experience working with both elementary-aged and middle-school students is essential.

Additional language instruction in French, Mandarin, or Spanish is a strong plus and may be incorporated into weekly learning sessions. This paid, flexible role is designed to create a supportive and inspiring educational environment within the home.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized homework support and academic reinforcement for a 12-year-old (middle school level) and a 5-year-old (early childhood level)
  • Design age-appropriate lesson plans and enrichment activities tailored to each child’s strengths and growth areas
  • Strengthen foundational skills in literacy, mathematics, and science through engaging and interactive methods
  • Incorporate creative learning strategies, games, and hands-on activities for early childhood development
  • Support study habits, organization, and time management skills for the older child
  • Introduce or reinforce a second language (French, Mandarin, or Spanish preferred) through conversational practice and structured lessons
  • Monitor academic progress and communicate updates regularly with parents
  • Foster a positive, patient, and encouraging learning environment that builds confidence and accountability
  • Adapt teaching approaches to accommodate different learning styles and developmental needs

Qualifications

  • Prior experience tutoring or teaching elementary and/or middle school students
  • Strong understanding of foundational academic subjects
  • Experience with early childhood learning techniques and engagement strategies
  • Ability to simplify complex concepts for younger learners while appropriately challenging older students
  • Excellent communication skills and a warm, encouraging demeanor
  • Familiarity with digital learning tools and educational resources
  • Foreign language proficiency in French, Mandarin, or Spanish is highly desirable
  • Background check and strong references preferred

Pay: $23.64 - $30.00 per hour
