Pastry Chef/Baker

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Pastry Chef/Baker to join a supermarket team in Fiji. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing a variety of high-quality baked goods, including bread, pastries, cakes, and other desserts, while maintaining hygiene, safety, and consistency standards. You will work closely with the Bakery Department to meet daily production targets, develop new recipes, and ensure our customers enjoy freshly baked products every day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and bake a wide range of bread, pastries, cakes, and specialty desserts.
  • Follow standardized recipes and ensure consistency in taste, presentation, and quality.
  • Decorate cakes and pastries to meet store and customer specifications.
  • Monitor baking supplies and ingredients; report low stock to the manager for reordering.
  • Ensure proper storage and rotation of products (FIFO).
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in the bakery area in compliance with food safety regulations.
  • Operate baking equipment and ovens safely and efficiently.
  • Assist in creating new bakery items or seasonal products in collaboration with the department head.
  • Take customer orders and provide excellent customer service when needed.
  • Adhere to all health and safety guidelines as per Fiji’s food safety regulations.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Pastry Chef or Baker (supermarket or commercial bakery experience preferred).
  • Formal training or certification in baking/pastry arts is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of baking techniques and familiarity with bakery equipment.
  • Ability to follow recipes, work independently, and meet production deadlines.
  • Creative, detail-oriented, and customer-focused.
  • Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work early mornings, weekends, or public holidays as needed.
