General Purpose of Job
:
Performs transcription services for Surgical Pathology. Provides and performs a variety of secretarial and clerical services as needed.
Essential Duties
This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.

Listen to audio recorded dictation of pathology reports and accurately transcribe the dictation into typed reports;

Review and edit drafts prepared by speech recognition software, insure that the transcription is correct, complete, and has a consistent style;

Translate medical abbreviations and jargon into the appropriate long form;

Identify inconsistencies, errors, and missing information within a report that could compromise patient care and communicate directly with the healthcare provider to ensure the accuracy of the reports;

Enter and retrieve medical reports from electronic health records systems;

Perform quality audits and participate in peer review;

Use Excel spreadsheets to record data;

Scan reports into a Health Information Management system;

Track and file pathology materials including slides and blocks;

Perform clerical duties as needed.

Work Experience
-
One year of secretarial or office experience
-
Medical Transcription experience. Preferred.
Education
-
High School Diploma
-
Completion of Medical Terminology course
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
-
Type a minimum of 50 words per minute
-
Proper usage of spelling, grammar, and punctuation
-
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal skills
-
Ability to operate a desktop and/or laptop computer
-
Word processing experience
-
Type 70 words per minute. Preferred.

Familiarity with Word, Excel, and Power Point. Preferred.
