UPMC Hamot is looking to hire a Penn State Behrend student from the Art of Labor program.
This position is casual and reserved for Behrend Students.
Schedule will follow designated preceptor, will include days and nights. Full time commitment (36 hours) in the summer, minimum of 8hrs/week during the school year except for finals week

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides routine patient care and supports departmental operations in accordance with established policies and procedures. Under the direction of a nurse or physician, the PCT ensures high‑quality patient care at all times. Responsibilities include core UPMC nursing assistant duties such as activities of daily living (ADLs), point‑of‑care testing, vital signs, mobility support, and prevention of hospital-acquired conditions. The PCT must successfully complete all required competencies.
Based on operational need, the PCT will also achieve and maintain competency in one or more advanced skills, including:

Phlebotomy/venipuncture

Peripheral IV removal
-
Indwelling Foley catheter removal

Basic arrhythmia recognition
-
12‑lead EKG
-
NG tube clamping and removal
-
Perform routine nursing assistant duties, including bathing, feeding, toileting, transporting, ambulating, and turning/repositioning patients.

Complete point‑of‑care testing (e.g., blood glucose), weights, vital signs, intake and output, and telemetry monitor application/reapplication.

Support HAC and PSI prevention using equipment such as TED hose and SCDs.

Perform simple dressings, bladder scans, specimen collection, “ticket to ride” preparation, and application/removal of restraints per protocol.

Assist with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.

Provide feedback to the RN regarding patient care and report changes in patient status.

Provide patient and family instruction under RN direction.

Demonstrate clear, professional communication with all members of the healthcare team.

Participate in unit activities such as responding to call lights and phones, passing meal trays, and assisting with patient transport.
