Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Patient Service Representative to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will serve as the first point of contact for patients, providing exceptional customer service while managing administrative tasks efficiently. This role requires a strong understanding of medical administrative support, familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, and knowledge of medical terminology and billing processes. Bilingual abilities and clinic experience are highly valued to ensure effective communication with diverse patient populations. The Patient Service Representative plays a vital role in maintaining accurate medical records, verifying insurance, and supporting overall office operations to deliver seamless patient care.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients professionally and manage front desk operations including check-in and check-out procedures.
- Schedule appointments using EMR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, or Dentrix, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Verify insurance coverage and benefits, including Medicare and Medicaid, to facilitate smooth billing processes.
- Collect payments and perform medical collections while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality.
- Manage patient documentation review, ensuring all records are complete and compliant with health information management standards.
- Assist with medical billing and coding tasks, including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10 coding, and documentation review for accurate claim submission.
- Handle multi-line phone systems with professional phone etiquette; respond to patient inquiries effectively.
- Maintain organized medical records and files in compliance with office policies and legal requirements.
- Support office management tasks such as filing, data entry (including 10 key typing), and updating patient information in EMR/EHR systems like eClinicalWorks or Eaglesoft.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to facilitate care plans and ensure smooth clinic operations.
- Perform insurance verification procedures to confirm patient coverage prior to appointments.
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing patient needs promptly and courteously in a fast-paced environment.
Experience
- Prior experience in a medical office setting or healthcare environment is preferred, especially in roles such as medical receptionist or front desk clerk.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems including Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or similar platforms is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of medical billing, coding (ICD-10/ICD-9/CPT), insurance verification, and health information management is essential.
- Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and typing skills (10 key typing).
- Excellent communication skills with a focus on phone etiquette; bilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse populations.
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations and confidentiality standards related to protected health information (PHI).
