Payroll Accountant

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for all aspects of the payroll process for the College including but not limited to the accurate and timely processing of payroll, maintaining accurate payroll databases, and assuring that proper policies and controls are followed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Process payroll additions/changes and personnel action notices within the ADP system
  • Process bi-weekly and monthly payroll for faculty, staff and student workers
  • Maintain payroll related general ledger accounts on a monthly basis
  • Coordinate all calendar year-end functions, i.e., W2s from ADP
  • Maintain organized files of all payroll documents
  • Create unique reports within the ADP system for budget preparation, audits, etc.
  • Maintain knowledge of current payroll tax laws to be able to answer employee inquiries
  • Prepare periodic reports of earnings, taxes, and deductions
  • Research payroll issues as necessary and adjust errors
  • Provide exceptional customer service concerning questions from employees
  • Prepare documentation for audit adjustments / records at year end
  • Reconcile monthly general ledger accounts
  • Perform data entry of miscellaneous journal entries, including transfers / reclassifications
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Education and / or Experience - Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Communication / Language - Requires effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from members of the college community and outside vendors.
  • Mathematical - Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest, percentages.
  • Reasoning - Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
