Payroll Accountant

Company Description

Jones Contractors, Inc. is a multi-regional midstream service company headquartered in Henderson, Tennessee. The company currently has an opportunity for a motivated individual to join their company as Payroll Accountant.


Role Description

This is a full-time remote role for a Payroll Accountant. The Payroll Accountant will be responsible for the development and implementation of payroll accounting processes and procedures for the organization. This includes weekly payroll processing, reconciliation, and import into the accounting system. This position will report to the Controller and Human Resources Director. The Payroll Accountant should have at least three years of experience with payroll and a solid foundation and understanding of accounting principles.


Duties

  • Develop and implement payroll accounting processes, procedures, and practices with supervision of Controller.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources group responsible for updating employee master payroll information and updating employee contact and personal data.
  • Record and process the weekly payroll and benefits.
  • Prepare and submit payroll import for input into the Paycom system. Review for input, coding, and calculation errors.
  • Ensure processing of Federal and State tax and social security withholdings along with other deductions including life and disability insurance, medical benefits, 401(k) contributions and company employee match.
  • Review and process payroll adjustments, including vacation, sick and other time off.
  • Perform checks to ensure all payrolls are captured and transmitted.
  • Develop reconciliation checks to ensure that all field employee time is allocated to jobs.
  • Provide timely and accurate financial information.
  • Ensure all employees are paid on time via direct deposit.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  • Coordinate and provide ad hoc analysis to Human Resources in support of workers compensation and unemployment claims.
  • Prepare/manage employee W-2s and related information for management and in support of audit.
  • Prepare and record payroll accruals for month-end financial closing.
  • Reconcile general ledger to payroll to ensure cash, accounting records, and Paycom reconcile.
  • Field questions regarding payroll, payroll taxes, and benefits. Investigate and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Develop desk procedures and assist in designing, implementing, and documenting internal controls in anticipation of preparation for the annual audit.
  • Provide craft and skill actual cost data in support of bid pricing and/or post project profitability reviews.
  • Identify and implement updates to payroll accounting software, systems, and procedures.
  • Provide information as needed in support of tracking and measuring employee productivity indicators.


Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters in Accounting.
  • Able to maintain 100% confidentiality and discretion.
  • At least 3 years of experience with accounting, payroll, or data entry
  • Proficient in HRIS systems – Paycom preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • High attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Experience with Computer Ease and/or other construction accounting software, in addition to other cloud-based accounting apps and related integrations.
  • General knowledge of US GAAP principles.
  • Knowledge of internal controls and accounting processes (payroll and benefits, 401K, ADP and 401K reconciliations, labor job allocations, payroll and benefits reporting, and budgeting).
  • Experience working for companies with project accounting, job costing, and construction accounting preferred.
