Job Summary

The Payroll Business Analyst is responsible for analyzing, supporting, and optimizing payroll and timekeeping processes, systems, and data. This role serves as a liaison between Payroll, HR, IT, and business units to ensure accurate payroll processing, system integrity, and compliance with applicable regulations. The Analyst identifies process improvements, resolves system and payroll issues, and supports reporting and decision-making through data analysis.

This position works in a fast-paced, deadline driven payroll environment. The position may require extended hours during payroll cycles.

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for payroll and timekeeping systems (e.g., Kronos, PeopleSoft).

Responsible for processing payroll vouchers and coordinating resolution for issues regarding the general ledger.

Assist with HRIS reporting.

Responsible for Kronos time processing, including ensuring leaders approve time before payroll processing cycles begin.

• Analyze payroll and timekeeping processes to identify inefficiencies, errors, and opportunities for improvement.
  
Provide analysis in advance of payroll cycles to reduce increase efficiency and reduce errors.

Support payroll operations by troubleshooting complex payroll and time/labor issues and ensuring timely resolution.

Perform system testing, validation, and implementation support for payroll and Kronos updates and enhancements.

Serve as a liaison with the UT SIS (UT Share Information Services) teams.

Represent department and institutions in functional UT Share meetings.

Translate business requirements into functional specifications for system enhancements, upgrades, or integrations.

Develop and generate payroll, compliance, and operational reports; analyze trends and provide insights.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and University laws and policies.

Partner with HR, Finance, and IT to support payroll-related initiatives and process improvements.

Document processes, workflows, and system procedures for operational consistency and audit readiness.

Assist in responding to and resolving employee and manager inquiries related to time and pay.

Coordinate training and disseminate ongoing information to employees and managers on timekeeping processes and systems.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree.

Three (3) years of business analyst, operational or related experience required.

• May accept a combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education/Experience

Experience with payroll and time reporting system preferred.

Experience in data validation and process improvements preferred.

• Experience in higher education or government agency preferred.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
