People & Operations Manager

About the Role

Maine Distributors is seeking a motivated, growth-oriented professional to join our leadership team as a People & Operations Manager. This role sits at the intersection of Human Resources, Safety, Compliance, and Operational Support, playing a critical part in keeping our workforce safe, compliant, and supported.

This position is ideal for a professional looking to build a long-term career in HR, operations leadership, or organizational management, with hands-on exposure to real-world compliance, employee relations, and operational strategy.

You will work closely with senior leadership and department managers across warehouse, delivery, and administrative teams.

What You’ll Do

HR & Compliance

  • Manage onboarding processes, including employment documentation, I-9 compliance, and personnel records
  • Monitor driver license compliance and maintain qualification records for employees operating company vehicles
  • Coordinate required regulatory programs including DOT drug & alcohol testing and compliance tracking
  • Support employee relations matters, performance management, and policy administration
  • Assist leadership with hiring, training coordination, and workforce planning

Safety & Risk Management

  • Lead company safety initiatives and compliance with OSHA standards
  • Maintain OSHA injury logs and reporting requirements
  • Investigate workplace incidents and coordinate workers’ compensation claims
  • Conduct root-cause analysis and implement prevention strategies
  • Coordinate safety training programs and return-to-work processes

Operations & Fleet Support

  • Monitor company fleet compliance, registrations, and maintenance coordination
  • Work with vendors on vehicle repairs, insurance claims, and equipment safety issues
  • Support facility safety inspections and operational improvements
  • Review operational expenses related to fleet, safety, and equipment

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Partner with supervisors across warehouse, delivery, and sales teams
  • Help ensure consistent application of company policies and procedures
  • Support a positive workplace culture focused on safety, accountability, and teamwork
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across operations

What We’re Looking For

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, HR, Safety, or related field preferred
  • OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • 1–5 years experience in HR, operations, logistics, safety, or compliance roles preferred

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage confidential information professionally
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced operational environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HRIS or operational systems
