Summary
The Permit Tech is responsible for providing permits and logistical support to the Specialized Transportation team. Will work closely with drivers, DOT representatives, and project managers to ensure all permits are secured so our loads can be delivered on time and safely.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Work with DOT offices nationwide to permit oversize/overweight loads on specialized equipment.

Coordinate information from customers, sales, Project Managers, field crew, and management to submit accurate permit applications to state DOT offices.

Work as liaison between corporate office and state DOT offices to get approved permits

Work with DOT offices to get them information as it is requested

Receive and verify that permits are correct. Review permit once issued for any additional restrictions or requirements. Distribute permits as required.

Review traffic/construction/weather restrictions from DOT websites on permitted routes

Create, manage, and update transportation schedules to move loads efficiently and safely.

Arrange schedules to meet permit restrictions, construction restrictions and local curfews.

Work with Project Managers to keep them updated to changing schedules.

Collect, interpret, and explain all travel restrictions to field crew and Project Managers.

Aid in maintaining schedule of escorts due to ongoing changes.

Work with DOT offices to plan routes, communicate route to surveyor, develop detailed route surveys based on route surveyors’ notes.

Compile detailed route surveys, work with State & Surveyor on finding safe/valid travel routes.

Assist in identifying and contacting of utilities, railroads, and any other local jurisdictions.

Assist with traffic control plans as needed by the route survey and/or state.

Input and manage data on transportation software.

Learn and work with LoadX transportation software.

Work with engineering team to ensure capability and accuracy of drawings.

Interact with and provide permitting assistance to corporate dispatch offices.
Qualifications
-
Experience in heavy haul transportation or a related field is a plus.

Prompt and dependable with excellent organization skills, including ability to prioritize tasks and anticipate issues that need attention.

Ability to consistently meet deadlines and follow up with little direction.

Effective oral and written communication skills with excellent spelling and grammar.

Work under moderate supervision with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Proficient with Microsoft Office software – AutoCAD and LoadX a plus.

Mathematical and mechanical aptitude.
