Ensure smooth operation of the residence by managing formal service, personal support, and household logistics with professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail. The Butler/Household Assistant maintains the organization and readiness of the home, provides direct service to principals and guests, and supports daily household activities. The role includes driving and supervising household maintenance in collaboration with staff and external service providers.
ResponsibilitiesHousehold Service and Personal Assistance
- Provide formal and informal food and beverage service, including meal plating, beverage preparation, and table service.
- Set and clear tables; maintain fine china, silverware, glassware, and linens.
- Pack and unpack luggage for travel, keeping items organized.
- Greet guests and provide discreet service during their stay.
- Provide concierge-style support for routine and special household activities.
Maintenance Coordination and Vendor Oversight
- Inspect home interiors and exteriors for maintenance needs.
- Coordinate with housekeepers, groundskeepers, technicians, and vendors; ensure work is completed to standard.
- Maintain records of maintenance schedules, vendor contacts, and service histories.
- Ensure the home is clean, organized, and operational; report issues promptly.
- Replenish household supplies, including cleaning products, pantry items, toiletries, and guest amenities.
Transportation and Errand Support
- Provide safe, punctual transportation for family members, staff, or guests.
- Manage vehicles, ensuring cleanliness, servicing, inspections, fuel, and valid registration/insurance.
- Perform errands such as grocery shopping, dry cleaning pick-up/drop-off, and package handling.
- Maintain discretion when accompanying or transporting principals.
Scheduling and Operational Support
- Maintain household calendar; coordinate appointments, service visits, travel, and events.
- Assist with domestic and international travel logistics and luggage management.
- Coordinate with staff to ensure smooth daily routines and special activities.
- Manage recurring administrative tasks, such as bills, subscriptions, and seasonal preparations.
- Handle all matters with confidentiality and discretion.
Qualifications / SkillsKey Competencies
- 5+ years in a similar role (butler, household assistant, private chauffeur, or household manager)
- Experience in formal service and household support
- Valid driver’s license with a clean record
- Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Bilingual skills are an asset
