Summary Objective

The purpose of this position is to update and maintain employee status records as it pertains to employment, personnel, payroll and compensation data for an assigned department.
This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Prepares lists, records information on forms, completes and processes standard forms, documents, and reports and corrects mistakes.

  • Enters, codes, stores, edits, and retrieves database records and files.

  • Determines hours worked from time sheets, adds total hours worked, determines overtime hours, verifies pay rates and submits payroll.

  • Processes, prepares, and corrects reports of employee attendance; vacation, sick, compensatory, and personal day accruals; wage and overtime costs; and employee turnover.

  • Explains personnel and payroll procedures and computation techniques to answer questions and to resolve payroll problems.

  • Provides information and processes forms for FMLA, worker's compensation claims, injured employees, and OSHA reports.

  • Processes applications to continue the interviewing and hiring process.

  • Contacts candidates and prepares and mails correspondence to schedule employment interviews and pre-employment examinations.

  • Prepares and processes requests and forms for employment verification and criminal records.

  • Assists with employee orientation sessions.

  • Responds to inquiries from applicants and employees, explains procedures and regulations, and provides information to the public.

  • Compiles data, calculates numbers and totals, and prepares activity reports.

  • Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate’s Degree in Business or Public Administration, Education, Industrial Relations, Political Science or related discipline.

  • Two (2) years of employment application processing, payroll processing, or human resource experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations
