Role Summary
The Pharmacy Incharge will oversee the entire pharmacy operations of the hospital, including procurement, stock management, dispensing, compliance, and supervision of pharmacy staff. The role ensures safe, accurate, and timely dispensing of medications while maintaining all regulatory and clinical standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Pharmacy Operations Management
- Oversee day-to-day functioning of the pharmacy (IPD & OPD).
- Ensure accurate dispensing of medicines as per doctor's prescription.
- Review prescriptions for errors, drug interactions, and safe dosage.
- Counsel patients about medication usage when required.
2. Inventory & Stock Control
- Manage procurement of medicines, surgicals, and consumables.
- Perform regular stock audits and maintain optimal inventory levels.
- Prevent stockouts and expiries using FIFO/FEFO methods.
- Check expiry dates and ensure timely removal of expired stock.
3. Supplier & Purchase Coordination
- Coordinate with vendors/suppliers for timely procurement.
- Negotiate pricing and manage purchase orders.
- Maintain proper invoices, GRNs, and purchase records.
4. Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure all pharmacy operations align with Drug & Cosmetic Act norms.
- Maintain prescription records, narcotics register, and billing accuracy.
- Ensure proper storage conditions (temperature-sensitive drugs, vaccines, etc.).
- Adhere to audit requirements and support hospital accreditation (NABH preferred).
5. Staff Supervision
- Supervise pharmacy assistants and support staff.
- Allocate duties, monitor performance, and ensure discipline.
- Train staff on drug handling, safety measures, and customer service.
6. Financial Responsibility
- Manage billing accuracy and cash/credit handling.
- Support hospital management in controlling pharmacy operational costs.
- Monitor high-value medicines and special inventory.
7. Patient & Internal Department Support
- Assist doctors and nurses with drug availability, dosage information, and alternatives.
- Provide medication counseling to patients when needed.
- Ensure quick turnaround time for IPD medication requirements.
8. Safety & Quality Standards
- Maintain cleanliness and proper storage of medicines.
- Follow infection control and biomedical waste disposal guidelines.
- Ensure strict adherence to controlled substance regulations.
Qualifications
- D.Pharm / B.Pharm (mandatory)
- Registered Pharmacist with State Pharmacy Council
- Experience in hospital pharmacy preferred
Skills Required
- Strong knowledge of drug classifications, interactions, and dosages
- Inventory and supply chain management skills
- Good communication and leadership skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Proficiency in pharmacy software/HMIS (preferred)
Shift Requirements
- Day shift or rotational shifts based on hospital policy
- Weekend/holiday duty if required
- Immediate joiners preferred
