PHARMACY TECH II - FT (40)

Position Summary

A non-professional health care employee who, under the general supervision of the Director of Pharmacy or direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, performs specific job responsibilities authorized by the Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Proof of highest level of education completed but not less than high school education or equivalent.
  • Basic typing and computer skills.
  • Must be a Licensed Pharmacy Technician in the State of Arizona.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form.
  • An understanding of computer systems, process design and data management.
  • Must have a well-groomed, professional appearance.
  • Must have the mental and physical ability to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation, the essential functions of the job.
  • Ability to lift, carry, pull, & push 50 pounds.
  • Language proficiency in English, with excellent written and verbal fluency.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of hospital pharmacy experience.
  • Previous Meditech experience or other related electronic records systems.

Principle Clinical/Technical Duties

  • Category: Core Duties

o Maintain the pharmacy in a neat, clean, and orderly manner with special attention to the personal work area.

o Profile orders and ensure the patient electronic medication administration profile is correct.

o Process pharmacy business and financial transactions as needed.

o Enter patient debits and credits into the health information system.

o Assist the pharmacist in performing and verifying the accuracy of dosing calculations for all aspects of dispensing including parenteral medications.

o Perform non-sterile medication compounding.

o Perform intravenous admixture procedures utilizing sterile technique in the pharmacy compounding isolator.

o Finish individually assigned duties completely and on time.

o Complete continuing education requirements.

o Perform medication unit dosing and labeling processes.

o Be personal responsibility for staying current with pharmacy and hospital policy and process changes.

o Provide personal training for Technician Trainees.

o Serve as courier for deliveries and pickups.

o Clean medication storage areas including shelves, bins, containers, equipment and stock.

o Assist in inventory counting and reporting.

o Maintain specialized medication stocks for the emergency, obstetric, ICU, and surgery departments.

o Monitor floor stock areas and pharmacy shelves for outdated medications and correct deficiencies as needed.

o Order, check, price and shelve incoming medications and supplies.

o Maintain central pharmacy medication and supply levels appropriately.

o Maintain individualized patient medication stock (drawers and cart fill) at appropriate levels.

o Maintain inventory in remote medication storage machines as required.

o Monitor remote medication storage and floor stock areas and correct deficiencies as needed.

o Routinely unpack and store pharmaceutical supplies verifying the items ordered against an invoice for items received and proper accounting.
