Job Description Summary:

Responsible for assisting the Pharmacist by prepackaging, stocking, and maintaining inventory, and dispensing pharmaceuticals to patients. Ability to type 20 words a minute. High School Diploma or equivalent required. Licensure as Pharmacy Technician preferred. Under the general supervision of the Pharmacy Coordinator, responsible for an assigned shift as scheduled full time or part-time. The employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Accurate preparation and filling of written, telephone, faxed and electronic prescriptions.
  • Determines priority of medications in relation to various delivery systems.
  • Prepare invoices for payment.
  • Performs basic computer procedures.
  • Types, distributes, or files prescriptions, and other department materials.
  • Determines legal status of scheduled drugs and performs appropriate record keeping and dispensing procedures.
  • Acts as initial contact to department either by phone or personal interaction solving problems or directing to appropriate personnel in a congenial manner.
  • Contributes to a positive work climate and the overall team effort of the department.
  • Troubleshoots, diagnoses problems, and performs routine maintenance on PARATA robot.
  • Troubleshoot with third party prescription plans including Medicare Part D.
  • Perform the daily operations of the cash register including opening, closing, preparation of reports and cash deposits.
  • Place order on wholesaler software and have a working knowledge of the software.
  • Works with Social Services on the filling of Foundation and Patient Assistance program prescriptions.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:

  • Technician Certification required
  • MUST be registered with the State of Tennessee within 90 days of employment

EXPERIENCE:

  • MUST have Pharmacy Technician experience, retail experience preferred.
