Physician Assistant (Observation Medicine)

Dedicated 12 Bed Observation Unit managed by the Emergency Dept.

Observation Unit: goal is to admit patients for expedited workups that don't meet inpatient criteria; but need further treatment or testing and possible full admission. Typical length of stay is 12 hours. Staffed by the Emergency Dept. Physicians. Located down the hall from the ED.

Responsibilities:

- Manage the daily Observation Unit flow:
Cardiac evaluations, TIA workups, Pre op cases
- Round daily with the on-duty doctor
- Develop/Implement treatment plans for patients w/ supervision of MD
- Manage test results, consultants (Cardiology, Neurology ect.), case managers
- Arrange discharge
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care
- Maintain up-to-date medical records (EPIC)

Days/Nights Shared with another PA

Experience:

Inpatient Medicine-Emergency Medicine:
Previous experience in any of these areas is very useful.
