Job Description

New Smyrna Wellness Center is seeking a skilled, motivated, and compassionate Physician Assistant (PA) to join our busy and growing primary care practice. This position is ideal for a provider who enjoys building patient relationships, working in a fast-paced environment, and practicing evidence-based medicine with a strong team support system.

We are looking for a PA who is confident, professional, and patient-focused, with strong clinical judgment and excellent communication skills.

Schedule

  • 4-5 days per week
  • Hours to be discussed during interview (flexibility available depending on office needs)

Responsibilities & Job Duties

The Physician Assistant will provide comprehensive medical care to patients of all ages under supervising physician oversight, within the scope of practice allowed by Florida law.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Perform patient evaluations including detailed histories and physical exams
  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions
  • Provide preventative care, health maintenance, and wellness visits
  • Develop treatment plans and monitor patient progress
  • Provide follow-up care and patient education

Common Conditions Managed

  • Hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia
  • COPD, asthma, respiratory infections
  • Thyroid disorders
  • Anxiety/depression management
  • GERD and gastrointestinal issues
  • Musculoskeletal pain/injuries
  • Urinary tract infections and common acute illnesses

Preventative & Wellness Care

  • Annual physicals and wellness exams
  • Health screenings and risk assessments
  • Immunization recommendations and preventative counseling
  • Lifestyle counseling (nutrition, weight management, smoking cessation, etc.)

Diagnostic & Procedural Duties

  • Order and interpret lab tests, imaging, and diagnostic studies
  • Perform basic in-office procedures within PA scope, such as:
  • Minor wound care
  • Injections (IM, subcutaneous, joint injections if applicable)
  • EKG interpretation
  • Medication management and refills
  • Review diagnostic results and communicate findings to patients

Medication & Treatment Management

  • Prescribe medications as appropriate and in compliance with state regulations
  • Adjust medications for chronic disease management
  • Provide medication education and monitor for adverse effects
  • Coordinate controlled substance prescribing appropriately and responsibly

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation in the EMR
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and all healthcare regulations
  • Assist with care coordination, referrals, and specialist communication
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives as needed

Collaboration

  • Work closely with physicians, nurses, medical assistants, and administrative staff
  • Coordinate care plans and ensure continuity of patient care
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with patients and staff

Qualifications

  • Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Florida (required)
  • NCCPA certification (required)
  • Active DEA license or ability to obtain (preferred)
  • BLS certification (required)
  • Primary care experience preferred (family medicine, internal medicine, urgent care experience is a plus)
  • Strong clinical decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and patient education skills
  • Ability to work efficiently in a busy clinical setting

  • Experience managing chronic conditions independently
  • Comfortable seeing a high volume of patients while maintaining quality care
  • Strong EMR documentation skills
  • Friendly, professional bedside manner
  • Team-oriented and dependable
