Job Summary
The Pipe Superintendent directs onsite, industrial, or civil pipe installation and fabrication, ensuring projects meet safety (OSHA), quality, and schedule standards . They manage crews, interpret drawings, schedule work, and coordinate with subcontractors and engineers. Key responsibilities include planning material/labor needs, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining safety compliance.
Core Responsibilities
- Site Supervision & Leadership: Directs foremen and craft laborers (pipefitters, welders) to ensure efficient installation, joining, aligning, and sealing of pipe sections.
- Safety Compliance: Implements and enforces strict safety regulations, conducting daily hazard analyses and ensuring a zero-incident work environment.
- Project Scheduling & Planning: Develops work schedules, determines manpower levels, and coordinates material/equipment needs.
- Technical Quality Assurance: Reviews blueprints and isometric drawings to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and standards.
- Coordination & Liaison: Acts as a liaison between engineering, management, and field crew to resolve issues, manage subcontractors, and ensure project continuity.
- Performance Monitoring: Tracks productivity, documentation, and progress reports
Productivity & Cost Control
- Monitor labor productivity and material usage
- Track progress and report daily production, manpower, and issues
- Minimize rework and downtime through proper planning and supervision
- Assist with look-ahead planning and manpower forecasting
Position Requirements: 10+ years of experience in industrial piping construction
3+ years in a foreman or general foreman role
Strong knowledge of industrial piping systems (carbon steel, stainless, alloy, HDPE, etc.)
Ability to read and interpret isometrics, P&IDs, and construction drawings
Solid understanding of welding processes and piping codes (ASME, API)
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Preferred
NCCER Pipefitting or Welding certification
OSHA 30-hour certification
Experience in refineries, chemical plants, power plants, or heavy manufacturing
Computer skills for reporting, scheduling, and documentation
Physical & Work Conditions
Ability to work in heavy industrial environments
Must be able to walk job sites, climb ladders and scaffolding, and work in varying weather conditions
