Pipefitter III (Journeyman Level)
Job Summary:
The Pipefitter III is a senior-level (Journeyman-equivalent) role requiring mastery in wet-side HVAC piping systems for commercial and industrial applications. With 5+ years of hands-on experience, this position operates independently with minimal supervision, performing complex installations, repairs, replacements, and equipment startups while upholding the highest safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate in-depth expertise in wet-side commercial HVAC applications, including hydronic, chilled water, hot water, steam, and related process piping systems.
- Independently lay out, assemble, install, maintain, repair, and replace piping systems, pipe supports, hangers, valves, and associated equipment for heating, cooling, and industrial processes.
- Perform equipment startups, functional check-outs, testing, and troubleshooting to ensure systems operate efficiently and meet design specifications.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, isometric drawings, and specifications to plan and execute precise layouts and installations.
- Document all work accurately, including completing required paperwork, as-built drawings, maintenance logs, and backup documentation for compliance and project records.
- Inspect job sites for obstructions, plan installation sequences, and coordinate with other trades to avoid conflicts.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues in existing piping systems, ensuring leak-free performance and code compliance.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while adhering to all OSHA regulations, company safety protocols, and industry best practices.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Minimum 5+ years of verifiable experience as a pipefitter in commercial and/or industrial HVAC settings (journeyman-level preferred).
- Current journeyman pipefitter license (or ability to obtain promptly in the relevant jurisdiction).
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification (or willingness to complete upon hire); strong commitment to safety in all operations.
- Proven proficiency in blueprint reading, layout, measurement, cutting, threading, welding/brazing (as applicable), and fitting various pipe materials (e.g., steel, copper, PVC/CPVC).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for clear interaction with team members, supervisors, clients, and subcontractors.
- Strong multitasking, problem-solving, and follow-through abilities, both internally and with external stakeholders.
- Physically capable of working in demanding environments: able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly, frequently bend, kneel, stoop, climb ladders/scaffolding, work in confined spaces, and stand/walk on uneven terrain for extended periods.
- Reliable transportation and valid driver's license (may be required for job sites).
