Plant Manager (Packaging Division)

Location: Lagos, Nigeria

Industry: Paper-Based Packaging, Offset & Flexo Printing

Reports To: Managing Director / Group Operations Head

Job Summary:

The Manager will be responsible for managing and optimizing all production and operational functions within the packaging division, covering paper-based cartons, labels, and related printed materials. The ideal candidate will have an engineering background and a strong command of offset and narrow web flexo printing processes. He will oversee end-to-end plant management — from procurement to dispatch — ensuring efficiency, quality, cost control, and adherence to production timelines.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Plant Operations & Management

• Lead and manage the entire packaging plant operations including pre-press, offset printing, flexo printing, and post-press finishing.
• Supervise day-to-day activities ensuring smooth workflow, minimal downtime, and consistent quality output.
• Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and process controls.
• Monitor production metrics and drive continuous improvement in productivity and cost efficiency.

2. Procurement & Inventory Management

• Oversee procurement of raw materials such as paperboard, inks, adhesives, and consumables.
• Ensure timely sourcing of materials at optimal pricing and maintain stock levels to avoid production delays.
• Liaise with vendors for equipment and material purchases aligned with plant capacity and technology upgrades.

3. Manpower Planning & Leadership

• Lead, train, and motivate technical and operational teams across departments.
• Implement performance monitoring systems and skill enhancement programs.
• Foster a safety-first culture and enforce compliance with HSE regulations.

4. Production Planning & Scheduling

• Plan, schedule, and allocate jobs efficiently to meet customer deadlines and optimize machine utilization.
• Coordinate with sales, design, and dispatch teams for smooth order flow.
• Analyze bottlenecks and deploy corrective measures to enhance throughput.

5. Technical & Quality Oversight

• Maintain high-quality standards in printing and finishing in line with client specifications.
• Coordinate with pre-press teams for accurate plate preparation, color calibration, and proofing.
• Ensure preventive maintenance and calibration of equipment to minimize downtime.

6. Process Improvement & Cost Control

• Identify areas of waste and inefficiency; implement lean manufacturing and 5S practices.
• Conduct periodic cost analyses to ensure profitability and process optimization.
• Evaluate new technologies and machinery to enhance productivity and competitiveness.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Printing, or Industrial preferred).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in paper-based packaging and labels manufacturing.
• At least 2 years of proven experience as a Plant Head or Production Manager in an offset or flexo printing facility.
• Strong understanding of pre-press, offset, flexographic printing, die-cutting, lamination, and finishing processes.
• Excellent leadership, analytical, and decision-making skills.
• Proficiency in production scheduling tools and Microsoft Office / ERP systems.
• Knowledge of ISO / quality standards and machine procurement processes is an advantage.
