Position Title: Detective
Division: Criminal Investigations Division (CID)
Location: Sunland Park Police Department
Salary: $23.92 hourly upon hire-after successful completion of Patrol FTO program-$27.92 hourly

Position Summary:
The Sunland Park Police Dept. is seeking a dedicated and experienced law enforcement professional to join our Criminal Investigations Division. This position involves conducting complex criminal investigations, preparing detailed reports, and working closely with other law enforcement agencies and prosecutors.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of law enforcement experience
  • New Mexico LEO Certified (current and in good standing with New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy and Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office) or other state
  • Strong knowledge of criminal law, investigative procedures, and evidence handling

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working in a Criminal Investigations Division or similar investigative unit
  • Specialized training in criminal investigations, interview and interrogation techniques, or crime scene analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to manage caseloads, write clear reports, and testify in court
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough and complete investigations of felony and misdemeanor crimes
  • Interview victims, witnesses, and suspects
  • Prepare affidavits, warrants, and investigative reports
  • Collaborate with patrol, forensics, and other divisions/agencies
  • Present evidence and testify in court proceedings
  • Ability to serve on the Detective on-call rotation (upon hire, compensated per COSP on-call policy---after successful completion of probationary period and upon entering Sunland Park Police Officer’s Association (SPPOA)/compensated per CBA guidelines)
  • Ability to be flexible with work schedule/holidays/nights/weekends and assist Patrol/Department operations as needed
  • Upon hire, must successfully complete a minimum seven (7) week Patrol FTO program (if needed, the program may be extended past seven (7) weeks)
  • Upon entering the Detective position, must successfully complete a minimum six (6) week Detective FTO program (if needed, the program may be extended past six (6) weeks)

Benefits

Important Note: New hire will be hired at the Police Officer position with the understanding that after successful completion of the Patrol FTO program, they will then transition into the Detective position.

Pay: $27.92 per hour
