QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED; supplemented by completion of a basic police officer training program; supplemented by two (2) years of previous experience that included law enforcement, patrol work, criminal investigations, or work in area of assignment.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a law enforcement certification in Georgia as issued by the Peace Officers Standards and Training Council.
- Assignment to special functions may require additional specialized training/certification pertaining to the area of assignment.
DUTIES:
- Responds to crime scenes; examines the scene of the crime to obtain clues and gather evidence.
- Investigates suspected criminals and the facts of cases.
- Obtains and serves search and criminal warrants; apprehends and arrests suspects.
- Interviews complainants, witnesses, victims, suspects, and informants in person and by telephone; obtains statements.
- Develops intelligence resources for use in investigations.
- Reviews investigative information; writes and files case reports.
- Assists other law enforcement agencies with investigations upon request; provides information on criminal activity to federal, state, and local enforcement agencies.
- Identifies, collects, marks, and preserves physical evidence; photographs crime scenes, lifts fingerprints, makes composites, and transfers evidence to state crime lab.
- Plans court presentations with prosecuting attorneys; presents evidence and information; and testifies in judicial proceedings.
- Conducts surveillance.
- Conducts narcotics and gang investigations.
- Conducts test fires of seized and evidentiary weapons.
- Conducts background checks for prospective employees; assists with internal affairs investigations.
- Responds to after-hour emergencies as needed when on call.
- Serves on assigned teams and task forces.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
