  • The Gordon Center for Research in Medical Education is currently seeking a full time Post Doctoral Associate to work in Miami, FL. The Post Doctoral Associate performs scientific research and studies under the supervision of managing staff. Moreover, the Post Doctoral Associate promotes institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community.

    Join the Gordon Center for Simulation and Innovation in Medical Education and the William Lehman Injury Research Center, leading organizations, specializing in the advancement of medical education and training implementation, research and evaluation. through the use of simulation technology. Our organizations are at the forefront of research and development of disaster response and preparedness. We are looking for a Disaster Preparedness and Response Scholar to play a key role in our mission to enhance the resilience of communities facing emergencies. This position involves the researching and evaluating the development and coordination of training programs in Basic Disaster Life Support (BDLS), Advanced Disaster Life Support (ADLS), the American College of Surgeons Disaster Management and Emergency Preparedness (DMEP) course, telemedicine training, and hospital-based training, equipping our team, volunteers, and community members with the necessary skills to respond effectively to disasters. The ideal candidate is a dynamic and resourceful individual with a background in disaster management, emergency medicine, or public health, passionate about teaching and making a difference in emergency preparedness and response.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Research and Scholarly Activities in Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management

    • Conducts applied research in disaster preparedness, emergency care delivery, health system readiness, and response coordination to support evidence-based improvements in training and practice.

    • Investigates the feasibility and impact of applying a wide range of public health, clinical, and emergency management theories and principles to disaster response scenarios.

    • Maintains substantial knowledge of emerging science, national standards, and best practices in disaster medicine, emergency preparedness, and health system resilience.

    • Develops analytical tools, simulation models, and evaluation systems to assess preparedness gaps and inform strategic planning and policy development.

    • Prepares research reports, technical briefs, and peer-reviewed manuscripts to disseminate findings and promote the translation of research into practice within the fields of emergency and disaster management.

    Curriculum Development and Training Implementation

    • Designs, develops, and regularly updates training content for NDLS (National Disaster Life Support), BDLS (Basic), ADLS (Advanced), DMEP (Disaster Management and Emergency Preparedness), and hospital-based courses to reflect current scientific evidence and evolving threats.

    • Coordinates the delivery of training sessions, including scheduling, material preparation, equipment management, and ensuring logistical readiness.

    • Facilitates or supports instruction in training programs, reinforcing core competencies in disaster triage, resource management, and coordinated response.

    Stakeholder Collaboration and Community Engagement

    • Partners with local, state, and federal emergency management agencies, healthcare systems, academic institutions, and community organizations to align training and research initiatives with real-world needs.

    • Participates in collaborative planning efforts to strengthen interdisciplinary preparedness and response strategies.

    Program Evaluation and Continuous Improvement

    • Designs and implements evaluation frameworks to measure the effectiveness, relevance, and outcomes of training programs.

    • Collects and analyzes participant feedback and performance data to refine educational approaches and enhance learner outcomes.

    Operational Support During Emergencies

    • Provides subject matter expertise and operational support during real-world disaster responses, applying skills and knowledge acquired through research and training.

    • Translates field experiences and after-action findings into improvements for training content, simulation scenarios, and research priorities.

    Department Specific Qualifications

    Education:

    • Medical degree and/or in Clinical Medicine and Emergency Management, Public Health, Emergency Medicine, or a closely related field.

    Certification and Licensing:

    • Certifications in BLS, ACLS, PALS. BDLS and ADLS preferred.

    Experience:

    • At least 2 years of experience in disaster preparedness training, emergency response, or public health education, with a proven track record in developing and delivering training programs.

    Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

    • Strong organizational and project management skills, capable of coordinating multiple training events simultaneously.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and instruct a diverse audience.

    • Proficiency in using educational technology and digital platforms for training delivery.

    • Flexibility to work irregular hours and adapt to changing situations, including potential deployment to disaster sites as needed.
