Poultry Ventilation & Environmental Systems Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking a Poultry Ventilation & Environmental Systems Engineer responsible for the design, validation, and optimization of controlled poultry housing systems, including tunnel ventilation, evaporative cooling, airflow dynamics, and electrical load planning.

The role focuses on engineering accuracy and environmental control, ensuring optimal bird health, production performance, and energy efficiency in modern poultry facilities.

This position is not a routine farm management role; it requires deep expertise in airflow engineering, environmental control systems, and poultry housing design.

Key Responsibilities1. Tunnel Ventilation Engineering

  • Design and evaluate tunnel ventilation systems for poultry houses.
  • Perform CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) airflow calculations based on shed size and bird density.
  • Ensure correct fan placement, capacity, and airflow distribution.
  • Maintain required air velocity for heat removal and bird comfort.

2. Static Pressure & Airflow Analysis

  • Measure and analyze static pressure levels within poultry houses.
  • Diagnose airflow restrictions caused by pads, shutters, curtains, or structural leaks.
  • Optimize airflow uniformity across the entire shed length.

3. Cooling Pad System Engineering

  • Design and size evaporative cooling pad systems.
  • Assess pad evaporation efficiency under varying humidity conditions.
  • Ensure correct water distribution, pad thickness, and airflow compatibility.

4. Environmental Control Systems

  • Configure and optimize environmental controllers managing:
  • Ventilation stages
  • Cooling pads
  • Circulation fans
  • Temperature sensors
  • Humidity controls

5. Electrical Load Mapping

  • Perform complete electrical load calculations for poultry facilities including:
  • Exhaust fans
  • Circulation fans
  • Cooling pumps
  • Lighting systems
  • Environmental controllers
  • Ensure proper generator sizing and backup power design.

6. Farm Infrastructure Review

  • Review shed blueprints, airflow diagrams, and engineering layouts.
  • Ensure structural compatibility with tunnel ventilation principles.
  • Identify design inefficiencies affecting environmental control.

7. Heat Stress Prevention & Bird Response Monitoring

  • Evaluate bird behavior and production indicators related to ventilation performance.
  • Diagnose ventilation or cooling inefficiencies based on bird response patterns.

8. System Audits & Performance Optimization

  • Conduct technical inspections of poultry facilities.
  • Identify airflow imbalance, cooling inefficiency, or ventilation faults.
  • Recommend engineering improvements.
