Power Supply Design Lead

Job Purpose:

The Power Supply Design Lead is responsible for managing the complete design lifecycle of the project including traction and auxiliary power supply systems in a metro project. This includes leading multidisciplinary coordination, ensuring compliance with client requirements and standards, and driving design approvals through relevant authorities and stakeholders.

This includes high, medium and low-voltage systems, power distribution, traction, earthing, and energy efficiency solutions. The role ensures compliance with project requirements, applicable standards, and client specifications.

This role includes coordination with the supplier and management of a team of Engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Design Management:

(1) Lead the design of traction power systems (750V DC), including rectifier substations, feeder stations, and negative return systems.

(2)Oversee the auxiliary power design (MV/LV distribution, transformers, UPS, switchgear).

(3)Ensure compliance with applicable international and local standards (EN50122, EN50163, IEC, DEWA, etc.).

(4)Prepare and validate technical documentation: SLDs, load flow studies, earthing/bonding design, short circuit calculations, protection schemes,…

(5)Provide technical guidance to electrical engineers and CAD/BIM designers.

2. Coordination & Integration

(1)Interface with Civil, MEP, signaling, telecom, rolling stock and other design teams to ensure integrated system design.

(2)Coordinate with SCADA and control systems teams for proper power system monitoring and control integration.

(3)Participate in interdisciplinary design reviews (IDR) and interface control meetings.

3. Authority Approvals & Client Liaison

(1)Support the preparation and submission of Design NOC applications to relevant authorities (e.g., DEWA, RTA).

(2)Ensure timely responses to comments and maintain alignment with client technical requirements.

(3)Support documentation and participation in design review workshops with the client and PMC.

4. Subcontractor & Supplier Oversight

(1)Review design deliverables from subcontractors and suppliers for compliance and constructability.

(2)Validate equipment selection and technical submittals (transformers, switchgear, cables, etc.).

(3)Manage design interfaces with suppliers and integration with the overall design.

5. Risk, Quality & Configuration Control

(1)Identify design-related risks and contribute to mitigation planning.

(2)Ensure compliance with internal quality management systems and configuration control protocols.

(3)Support the development of Design Change Requests (DCRs) and engineering change logs.

Qualifications and Skills:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred).

2. Minimum 8–10 years of experience in power system design, with at least 3 years in a lead or supervisory role.

3. Strong knowledge of electrical design software (ETAP, Dialux, AutoCAD, Revit MEP, etc.).

4. Familiarity with international electrical standards (IEC, IEEE, NEC).

5. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.

6. PMP certification or similar project management knowledge is a plus.

Preferred Experience:

1. Experience in infrastructure projects such as rail, metro, airports, or industrial plants.

2. Experience in Metro project is preferable

3. Background in both design and site support is advantageous.

4. Experience working with international clients and EPC contractors
