The Pre-Registration Billing Specialist is an important member of our Billing team and plays a key role in ensuring patients are financially prepared for their care. This position focuses on verifying insurance coverage, clarifying benefits, and helping patients understand their financial responsibilities before services are provided.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with insurance details, navigating payer portals, solving coverage questions, and supporting patients through the billing process. The Pre-Registration Billing Specialist works closely with patients, providers, and internal teams to ensure accurate information, smooth workflows, and a positive patient experience from the start.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits prior to patient visits and services, ensuring accurate coverage information and collecting required payments
  • Navigate insurance portals and communicate with payers to confirm benefits and coverage details
  • Assist patients in understanding their financial responsibility and help establish payment plans when needed
  • Contact patients to obtain updated insurance information or discuss outstanding balances
  • Document insurance updates, patient payments, contact information, and account notes accurately in the system
  • Respond to inquiries from patients and staff regarding insurance coverage and billing updates
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes, insurance benefit structures, provider services, and medical terminology
  • Provide a professional, supportive, and solutions-focused patient experience
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and ensure compliance with HIPAA guidelines
  • Collaborate with billing, front office, and clinical teams to support efficient operations
  • Identify issues or discrepancies and escalate questions or concerns to the appropriate team members when needed
  • Utilize practice management systems and technology tools effectively to complete daily responsibilities

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 1 year of medical billing or insurance verification experience required
  • Experience working with insurance portals and payer websites
  • 10-key data entry experience required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and general office systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Current CPR certification, or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of employment

Pay:

$20.00 - $22.00/ hour, depending on experience level

8-hour shift
