DESCRIPTION: Part time art teacher at a progressive minded preschool in Glendale, CA. Misty Wagon Schoolhouse incorporates elements of Reggio Emilia, Montessori, Social Constructivism and RIE. Our community requires a part time art teacher teacher to offer thoughtful art experiences to children ages 2-5.

HOURS: 9:30-1:30 MONDAY-FRIDAY

MISTY WAGON SCHOOLHOUSE MISSION:

Misty Wagon Schoolhouse is a place for children to feel safe, inspired, and thoughtfully challenged every day. We serve children ages 2.5 years to 5 years old. MWS is open Monday through Thursday from 9am to 4pm and Fridays from 9am to 2:30pm. It is located in a beautiful home in Glendale’s Riverside Rancho neighborhood. Our school year runs year-round with short winter, spring and summer breaks.

The philosophy of our program centers around nurturing children’s ideas. There is space for them to wonder, formulate theories, test those theories and share their understanding. Teachers will ensure children are seen, heard and respected. We do this by thoughtfully designing the environment, asking provocative questions and encouraging the testing out of ideas.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Passion for early childhood education
• Focus in the arts (schooling or personal experience)
• Experience teaching preschool aged children
• Education credits (ideal)
• Pediatric CPR, First Aid Certifications
• Mandated Reporter Training Certification
• Current TB test
• Proof of immunity against pertussis, measles and the flu
• A background check and fingerprint clearance

ART TEACHER (AKA ATELIERISTA) RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Prepare our school environment by designing inspiring artful experiences for children indoors and outdoors that consider the children’s interests and offer opportunities for depth in the environment
• Support other teachers with how to integrate materials into their work with the children
• Maintain our art studio space and manage orders and restock when needed
• Organize, maintain and clean materials and schoolhouse space
• Contribute to our thoughtful documentation published for parents
• Lead morning and end of the day meetings that invite children to consider something new, connect and reflect
• Model cultural curiosity in authentic ways
• Support young children in the toileting process
• Facilitate conflict resolution when needed
• Participate in ongoing teacher research (reading and sharing educational theory and emerging ideas around early childhood education)
• Observe and document children’s growth, ideas and challenges
