Preschool Assistant Teacher

Duties and Responsibilities -Wake Threeschool Assistant Teacher are responsible for the early education of children in their care. Duties and responsibilities of Preschool Assistant Teachers include aiding in developing and delivering interactive learning programs designed to engage and educate young children. Examples of Preschool Assistant Teacher duties and responsibilities include:

  • Helping to establish and enforce rules of behavior for children in their classrooms
  • Provide basic needs for children
  • Provide tools and resources for children to use and explore during learning and play activities
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the interests and learning styles of children
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with children and parents
  • Manage classroom activities including lessons, play, breaks and meals
  • Track children's’ progress and report to parents
  • Maintain a clean and tidy classroom
  • Help children reach developmental milestones
  • Collaborate with others to implement lesson plans
  • Encourage children to interact with each other to develop social skills
  • Provide appropriate supervision for children at all times
  • Maintain inventory system for classroom materials and supplies
  • Facilitate various activities for children including songs, games and storytelling
  • Adhere to health/safety and sanitation procedures

Skills and Qualifications - A successful Assistant Teacher works collaboratively with the Lead Teacher to provide a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment that promotes school readiness and supports the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of young children. Examples of Preschool Assistant Teacher skills and qualifications include:

  • Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred.
  • NC Early Childhood Credential required or willingness to obtain within required timeframe.
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with preschool-aged children in a licensed childcare or early education setting preferred.
  • Wake ThreeSchool or NC Pre-K experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Familiarity with NC Child Care Rules and Regulations.
  • Experience with Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies GOLD preferred.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and actively participate in classroom activities.
  • Must successfully complete all required criminal background checks and meet NC childcare licensing requirements.
  • Support children's learning through hands-on experiences, play-based learning, and small-group instruction.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment.
  • Help establish and maintain classroom routines, expectations, and positive behavior guidance strategies.
  • Provide active supervision to ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times.
  • Assist with meals, toileting, handwashing, rest time, and other daily care routines.
  • Encourage children's social-emotional growth, independence, and problem-solving skills.
  • Build positive relationships with children, families, and staff members.
  • Assist with observing and documenting children's progress and developmental milestones.
  • Prepare and maintain classroom materials, learning centers, and educational resources.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.
  • Ensure compliance with NC DCDEE licensing regulations, Wake ThreeSchool requirements, and center policies.
  • Participate in required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with families regarding children's daily experiences and progress.
  • Support the Lead Teacher during assessments, family engagement activities, and program events.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $34,069.00 per year
