Abracadabra Childcare & Development Center is a small, non-profit early childhood program serving a close-knit school community. We are seeking a dependable, caring Preschool Assistant Teacher who truly loves working with young children and values being part of a supportive team. This is a part-time or full-time position. Hours of operation for the center are 7:30am-6pm Monday-Friday.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with planning and implementing developmentally appropriate lesson plans aligned with the HighScope Curriculum and early childhood education standards, including literacy, math, physical development, and social-emotional learning.
- Create a warm, engaging classroom environment that encourages curiosity, independence, active learning, and positive peer interactions.
- Use positive behavior guidance strategies to support self-regulation, cooperation, and a respectful classroom community.
- Maintain daily communication with families through Brightwheel.
- Support individual learning needs by adapting activities and collaborating with leadership and families when additional support or early intervention services are needed.
- Facilitate activities that promote language development, fine and gross motor skills, problem-solving skills, and emotional regulation.
- Communicate openly and professionally with parents regarding daily activities, milestones, and student progress.
- Ensure all health, safety, licensing, and supervision requirements are followed to maintain a safe and secure learning environment.
- Work collaboratively with fellow teachers and staff to support classroom planning, school events, and seasonal activities.
- Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in early childhood education.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Knowledge of child development, classroom management, and play-based learning; experience with the HighScope approach is a plus.
- Familiarity with Brightwheel is a plus.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and coworkers.
- Dependable, punctual, and committed to being a supportive team player in a small school setting is required.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Ability to create an inclusive, respectful classroom that supports diversity and prioritizes child welfare.
