Preventative Maintenance Technician (Commercial HVAC)

Duties and Responsibilities (we will teach you):

  • Perform preventative maintenance (PM) on ductless split systems, split systems (gas & heat pump), package units, exhaust fans, gas heaters, ice machines, and related commercial HVAC equipment
  • Complete PM tasks including changing filters, replacing fan belts, cleaning coils, lubricating components, testing and inspecting motors, compressors, electrical components, heat exchangers, burner assemblies, condensate systems, pumps, and related equipment
  • Meet established productivity standards, deadlines, and work schedules
  • Use time, materials, and company resources efficiently and responsibly
  • Accurately submit work orders, service quotes, and equipment replacement leads
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe company vehicle with proper stock, parts, tools, and safety equipment
  • Properly care for company-provided tools and equipment
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications and Requirements:

All we are looking for…

  • A strong aptitude and positive attitude
  • 1–2 years of HVAC experience preferred; other construction or trade-related experience will be considered
  • Interest in enrolling in trade school and obtaining EPA/CFC certification (James River Air even has our own NCCER Trade School)
  • Demonstrated willingness, initiative, and interest in learning and developing new HVAC skills
  • Self-starter with mechanical aptitude, common sense, and strong work ethic
  • Customer service oriented… committed to our mission to “Delight the Client”
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Professional and cooperative attitude when communicating with field and office staff
  • Willingness to step up and contribute when needed
  • Comfortable use of mobile devices (cell phone/tablets) for work documentation
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • Ability to pass background check, drug screening, and basic physical

Other skills we can teach you and certify you in:

 Safety 101 – JRAC Safety Handbook, OSHA 10, MEWP, Fall Protection, First Aid

 Apprenticeship 101 – Enrolling and completing Years 1–4 while earning field hours toward licensing

 CFC 101 – Core, Type I, Type II, Type III, and Universal Certification

 Customer Service 101 – Communication fundamentals, job site etiquette, teamwork expectations, and customer experience standards

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee is frequently required to use hands and arms, climb or balance, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour
