ABOUT THE ROLE

Black & White Engineering is a multi-award-winning engineering consultancy, with over 1000 employees in teams based in our UK, European, Middle East and Asia Pacific offices. We have been providing a wide range of engineering consultancy services since 2007.

We are recruiting a Principal Engineer as part of our expanding Global Engineering Team (GET) function. Reporting to the AD or TD, this role will manage client relationships and assist in the ongoing development and growth of the business. Providing expert technical, design and contract management support on mechanical or electrical engineering disciplines, to ensure project requirements and clients’ specifications are fully met.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead multidisciplinary design teams to deliver complex data centre and mission-critical projects in alignment with B&W’s global technical standards.
  • Support the GET in developing, maintaining, and implementing standardised design tools, templates, and quality benchmarks across regions.
  • Provide expert input on design optimisation, risk management, and innovation opportunities.
  • Drive continuous improvement and feedback loops between regional delivery teams and the GET.
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to clients and represent the business at senior design and coordination meetings.
  • Collaborate across regions to provide design support, peer reviews, and technical audits.
  • Mentor engineers within the region and support technical knowledge sharing across the global team.
  • Support training and professional development aligned with the GET’s competency framework.
  • Other reasonable duties as appropriate

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES (QHSE)

  • Awareness of H&S policies and procedures and impact on yourself and team
  • Ensure all staff members complete mandatory compliance training when required
  • Report any accidents, incidents, near misses appropriately

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Monitor and report on resource use against team plans.
  • Manage and develop team members where there is direct line leadership
  • Work with other Principal Engineers to ensure quality and timely operation delivery for clients.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENT (MINIMUM)

  • BSc/BEng or HND/HNC in appropriate engineering discipline (Mechanical or Electrical)
  • MCIBSE/MIET desirable
  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards)

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS (MINIMUM)

  • Prior experience of complex MEP design for a range of building types
  • Knowledge of MS Office applications Word, Excel etc
  • Experience and knowledge of relevant design software (e.g. AutoCAD, NES, Cymap)
  • High level of technical skill with the ability to communicate knowledge clearly
  • Prior working knowledge of applicable legal/regulatory requirements, codes and standards
